Some more useless inventions

 2011.04.26. 11:29

There are a lot of invention that help to people to live their life. However, there are many that are not help. For example the Japanese Chindogu inventions, that are really good for nothing.
The bad idea’s concept dissapears. If you have got one, it will be a good Chindogu invention, a weird appliance. The japanese design’s creator said that the Chindogu-trend is similar to the big English revolution with one difference: Although the revolution’s inventions task was to help to the life, the Chindogu’s task is to raise difficulties.
Kawakami, the trend’s creator made more than 600 inventions, and also created an international cult with his books, television appearances, and with his shows.
Kawakami’s newest invention is the cylindrical, gold, 20-number-combinationed lock.
We can open it if we try all of the combinations and it would take 3,2 quintillion years.

The Chindogu’s ten commandments:
1.The Chindogu is useless. If somebody can use it, it is not a Chindogu anymore.
2. Chindogu must exist and you have to imagine that is useful for something.
3. In every Chindogu must be there the anarchism’s moral: Chindogu is the thing, that could escape from the availability’s bondage.
4.Chindogu is a common thing, so special gadgets are not Chindogus.
5.It is not for sale. You can’t  take money for it.
6.You never can do it for fun, the humour is just be off the point.
7.Chindogu is innocent. It made for to use it,but it is useless.
8.Chindogu is never a taboo-destroyer, the sexual attacks, the vulgar humour or the creatures’ sacrament destroyer stupid jokes are not allowed.
9.Chindogu is a gift for the world.
10.Chindogu is stereotype clear, never prefer an animal or a human kind,or a religion.

Now  some useless gadgets:
Food-cooler: If the food is hot, you don’t have to blow it.

Clothes-line on the car: If the car goes, it drys faster.

Jack the Ripper

 2011.04.26. 11:27

I don’t recommend eating and reading this at the same time…

Jack the Ripper and Victorian England

The Whitechapel district in London, among with other slums, was filled with poor, dirty people; the streets were narrow, they stank, and also were a huge maze of taverns and brothels. More then 50% of the children died before their 5th birthday, there was barely any food to eat, and they were often crowded in small rooms with their five or six siblings. In these hopeless circumstances, most women had no chances but to become prostitutes, in case they wanted to avoid starvation. These innocent women, working degrading work just to stay alive, somehow got a mysterious person’s not so honorable attention. This person was the legendary Jack the Ripper.

In a black, silent night, in August 1888, the 42-year-old Mary Ann Nichols, best known as “Polly”, walked home alone from… well… her workplace. She suddenly heard steps behind her. He probably started to run, but it was too late. While she was dying, her killer literally dissected her alive with his 25 cm long (quite huge…) knife, the same knife which he has severed her neck two times with previously. Eight days later, the 47-year-old ‘Dark’ Annie Chapman was killed by the same way. After the discovery of the two bodies, the people started to panic. They also started to mention two other cases, the murders of two streetwalkers; Emma Elisabeth Smith and Martha Tabram. (Though they were only stabbed, not killed ritually, like these two women. The authority strengthened the protection of the area. There were lots of volunteers to the militia; everybody wanted to find the killer and forget about the whole thing.

The investigation wasn’t successful. The police was desperate and started to suspect innocent people, such as surgeons and butchers. (They thought Jack might be a surgeon because of his perfect technique of dissection and the knowledge of the human anatomy.) The killer knew the police was unsuccesful, and so he (or somebody claiming to be him) wrote a derisive letter to the Central News Agency. The letter’s name is the ‘Dear Boss’-letter. He said he wanted to write it with the blood of his victims, but ‘it went thick like glue and he couldn’t use it’. His ‘trade name’ (he used this expression), Jack the Ripper first appeared in the signing of this letter. He promised to continue the murders unless the police catches him. He also promised to send them the ears of his next victim.

In the 30th of September, early in the morning, Elizabeth Stride’s body was found in an alley. She held grapes in the one, and chocolate in the other hand, the killer probably tempted her with these rare foods. But there was something different with this case. Jack the Ripper was interrupted during the attack; he did kill the prostitute, but with only one section, and after that, he didn’t cut her abdomen. Later that day, another prostitute’s, Catherine Eddowes’ body was found dead. Her stomach was ripped, and some of her organs were removed. These two cases were later called the ‘double event’.

One day later, the Scotland Yard got the second letter from Jack the Ripper. He said he was sorry for not sending the ears of the woman, but he was interrupted during the murder. Instead, he sent a part of the second lady’s kidney...

Two weeks later, he sent his last letter (entitled ‘From Hell’) to the Whitechapel police, with a small box, including one half of Eddowes’ kidney, saying he fried ate the other half…

In the November of 1888, the last and oddest murder happened. The victim was a young, 25-year-old girl, called Mary Jane Kelly. (Jack only killed middle-aged women before.) Her body was found in her own bedroom. (Jack only killed on the streets before.) The body was gruesomely mutilated; each of her missing organs were lying all over the room. Each, except her heart.

This case was the last one officially attached to Jack the Ripper.

Jack the Ripper has been never caught.

The police said he jumped in the River Thames and died, but this was probably a lie to calm people down. (However, an insane man did commit suicide in the river that week…)

A small piece of interesting fact as an ending: the places of the crimes formed a cross on the map. Nobody found out the exact reason, he probably did it just for fun… O.o

(My sources were mainly www.sorozatgyilkosok.hu, the 2001 movie entitled ‘From Hell’, and a bit of Wikipedia…)

What does an invention mean? Some people say that it's a new process, which make a radical breakthrough.  Rubbish! An invention doesn't have to make breakthrough. There are many of them which hasn't any benefit.  So let's see some exciting but useless inventions.

Firstly, let me introduce the motorised ice-cream cone. You have to lick the ice-cream no more,  just put your tongue next to the scoop and enjoy. Unfortunately, it’s a bit expensive and it’s hard to wash up so you can’t get motorised cone in every ice-cream shop (maybe in the future)

Don’t you like if your ears are fulled with water? No problem, there is a solution for this problem. No, it’s not a towel. It’s the great dryear machine. It blows hot air to your ears which going to be dried. And I’d like to note that it’s small so you can bring it to swimmingpool  (don’t bother if others laugh at you). It works with battery as well as the motorised cone above.

Have you ever cut around a picture wich was important for you? Can you cut straightly? You should buy a LASER-GUIDED SCISSORS which helps you to target the paper (like a laser-guided gun), but I have to note that the laser is attached to the scissors so when your hand shakes, the laser shakes too. Nevertheless it’s fun.

And last but not least,  you would enjoy (or not?) phonefingers.  It helps you to keep your Ipod or your touch-screen machine clear. So don’t be suprised if you see a person on the bus who has strange, blue fingers.

After this I believe that the invention is when you make or be able to make something new and it doesn’t matter if it’s useful or not.

Audrey Hepburn

(born Audrey Kathleen Ruston; Ixelles, Belgium;4 May 1929 – 20 January 1993)

She was a British actress and idol.

She was the only child of an English banker, Joseph Victory Ruston and a Dutch aristocrat, Ella van Heemstra. Her parents divorced in 1935, after her father left the family. This was a large trauma for her.

Audrey grew up in the Netherlands, but 1935-1938 she studied at Miss Ridgen’s school, an independent girls’ school in England. She studied ballet at the Arnhem Conservatory, then she moved to London in 1948, where she was working as a model and continued her studies in ballet.

Her first role was as a stewardess, in a short tourism film for KLM (KLM Royal Dutch Airlines), before she moved to London with her mother.

After that she got some small roles in some films.

She also played in musical theatre productions like High Button Shoes(1948), Sauce Tartare(1949) and Sauce Piquante (1950).

Her first starring-role was in the Roman Holiday (1953) as Princess Ann, a bored European princess, who falls in love with Gregory Peck, the American newsman.

After Roman Holiday, she starred in a romantic comedy, Sabrina (1954).

For her performance, she won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

By the mid-1950s, she became a fashion icon. She was the covergirl of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar. Her style was the result of meeting with the designer Hubert de Givenchy, in 1954, who created her style in Sabrina. This meeting was the beginning of a life-long lasting friendship, and Audrey became the muse of Givenchy.

Her most famous role was in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.(1960). She played Holly Golightly, an extrovert, young, beautiful girl, which became an iconic character in American cinema. Her memorable style in this film was also designed by Givenchy. This film is one of the most dominant films in fashion.

Her last starring role in a cinematic film was in the 1981 comedy They All Laughed, directed by Peter Bogdanovich.

She also was a humanitarian: she was the goodwill ambassador to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

In 1992, she began to feel abdominal pains. The doctors discovered abdomibal cancer at her. She died in cancer, on 20 of January 1993, in her sleep.

Historical background

In the second half of the 19th century, a lof of immigrants (mostly Russians, Irishmen and Jews) were come to England, which made the sub-urbans overcrowded in English cities. The worst place from those was the Whitechapel quarter, in the East End, London. The crime and prostitution rate was at really high. Incidents based of racism were part of the average days. In this environment, a cruel and unreasonable serial killer had begun his actions. He is now as known as Jack the Ripper. His alterego is unknown.

Whitechapel crime scenes

The homicides

There were 11 victims of the „Whitechapel homicides”, but only five of them were killed undeniably by Jack the Ripper. His (he could be woman, but everyone thinks, he was a man, so I’ll use he) victims were the five unlucky woman, who had been mutilated brutally (they are as known as the General Five).

Now, we shall take at a look at the „General Five” murders.

Mary Ann Nichols’s corpse was found at 31-08-1888, 3:40 AM,Buck’s Row. Her throat was cut from ear-to-ear and her belly was stabbed with a knife too.

Annie Chapman was found at 08-09-1888, 6:00 AM. The 48 year-old prostitute had been killed with the same method, and the killer removed her uterus. Witnesses said, that  they had saw Chapman together with a black-haired man.

Elisabeth Stride and Catherine Eddowes were killed at 30-09-1888. Stride’s corpse hadn’t been mutilated, so the crime scene investigators thought that someone had distracted „Jack”.

But the body of Eddowes was brutally mutilated. Her uterus and left kidney was cut out from her body. Some of her clothes lied down at the Goulston street, and above the clothes, there was a strange sing on the wall: „ The Juwes are the men that will not be blamed for nothing ”, what can means: „The Jews are the men that will not be blamed for nothing”. The main investigator was afraid from a pogrom, so he ordered to remove that sign.

Mary Jane Kelly’s corpse has been found at 09-11-1888, 10:45 AM. It was a big challenge to analyze her, because Jack did the most cruel homicide here. The corpse hadn’t been got any inner organ, and her heart is vanished.

The letters

Another interesting topic is the question of the letters. There were a lot of letters, but most three most interesting are the letters called: „Dear Boss”,”Saucy Jack”,”From Hell”.

In the first two letter, there are references for the murders, and the nickname „Jack the Ripper” was written first in the „Saucy Jack” letter.

The „from Hell” letter is really different from those ones, especially the handwriting. In the opinion of grapholigists, that letter was written by a more under-cultured man.

Feel the difference: on the left is the „Saucy Jack”, right is the „From Hell” letter.

P.S.: Professedly a journalist called Fred Best wrote the first two letters (and found out this nickname).

The most interesting professions

The most interesting professions

-What will you be if you grow up? - Every teacher, parents, classmates ask it. But what do we answer? Very common jobs: lawyer, doctor, engineer, police officer, etc. Many people work for a living only, although a well-chosen job can give you good salary, and fun too. These professions may require some special abilities, but if you have good luck, that can be enough for a contract. Dirty, dangerous, silly jobs are coming.

If you aren’t liable to get seasick, and you like adrenaline and ugly sea creatures, you really should go and hit the waves of the Bering Sea, and try crab fishing. Fishers usually earn $5000 to $25000 for a week, depending on the performance and catch. That’s why sometimes they get no payment, or more money than the usual salary. However, this high salary is combined with high risk of death: the death rate of this job is 30 times larger than the average. You can fall into the sea, or get squeezed by a half-ton fishing cage, for example.

There are other, less dangerous methods to get much money.  If you love chocolate, this job is for you. Chocolate tasters get paid to taste chocolate all the day. What can be better? Their salary is $15000-$45000 per week. However, this job is not so easy as it seems to be. Most of these people go to food science degree, and work hard before they get this job. They also have to eat very healthy things when they don’t eat chocolate, to prevent eating too much carbs, and they need to visit the dentist often.

If you want to choose a crazy but scientific job, try deodorant testing. You will need good sense of smell, love of armpits, and chemistry knowledge.  Stinky, hairy armpits? Rotten armpits? You can just hope if the deodorant works. This job doesn’t pay well, only $55 per hour. But you don’t have to be afraid of long queues at the job interview.

If you dream about a job, where you get money for relaxation on a beach, your dream just came true. Just participate in a survey, hope you are better than the thousands of other participants. If you win, you get one of the best jobs ever: island caretaker. Island caretakers have to know sea-biology, but they can go scuba-diving, swimming, and do other things as they were on holiday. This job came in people’s mind two years ago, when the Queensland government in Australia launched a $1,7 million marketing campaign including the recruitment of a lucky person for 6 months island caretaking. The salary for that job was 150000 Australian dollars (~100000 US dollars).

Why should you watch Gossip Girl?

 2011.03.06. 20:54

Why should you watch Gossip Girl?

The answer is so simple: 'cause it's awesome. So the question is why only the young like it? I would say the topic is the main reason. I can summerise Gossip Girl in three words: sex, parties, fashion.

The story takes places in the Upper East Side, and as you know the new yorker rich live there. In the beginning, Serena van der Woodsen came back. The rumor-factory strarts working immidiatly: why she had disappeared one year before? And why is she here now? But that's more important, why her best friend, Blair Waldorf isn't happy to see her again? Serena has to find it out that a lot of things has been changed. Blair is rude with her, and not she is the princess as she used to be before. Serena meet with Dan Humpherly, who has been in loved with her for long-long ago, and Dan's little sister, Jenny, whose biggest dream is to belong the cool girls. Of course, the story is not that simple, there are lots of misunderstanding, dangereous love-triangles, rumors and shit-mixing. The misterious Gossip Girl doesn't let us to miss the newest happenings: she writes a blog, where you can information about the hottest gossips. And nobody knows, who is she.

That's enough about the story, let's see the actors!  When I first saw Serena in the start-episode when she's only 17, I couldn't belive my eyes: Blake Livley is beautiful, but a little too old for Serena. Now it's not problem, because now they are older, but in the first season, it's .

The tv-series has been adapted from a book-series, called Gossip Girl (what a suprise), and there are a lot of differences. First of all, Chuck Bass. In the books, he is the poser, rich boy, who has an extravagant stlye and the biggest yerk ever, but in the film, he is a yerk too, but what happend with his „amazing” outfits??? And i can't forgive what the director did with Dan and Vanessa. D. was a poetist, who always wears black, thin, coffein- and nicotine-addict, and can't dress up normally. And in now? A totally OK boy. And Vanessa...as Dan, she is an artist, who wears only black, and she shave off her hair. In the film, she is an average girl, and it's sad, cause she is my fav character. And Serena, of course, but in the film her personality don't really come trought, actually if you haven't read the book, you can't understand her fully. And it's true for the others too, all of the characters have been simplified.

Well, Gossip Girl isn't for everybody, but if you like fashion and exciting stories about spoilt, rich teenagers you'll like it. I advice you to start with the book, i think it's a way better, but the film has its own charm and strenght. If you watch the film first then read the book, you can easily be disappointed.

I say goodbye just like GG: You know you love me. xoxo

Taboos

Taboo (Proto-polynesian tapu forbidden, ritually regulated) is saint or forbidden human activity, habit, what is strong social prohibition or ban; if someone violates a taboo , the society can find fault with it or convict it. The term comes from Tongan word tabu. James Cook took it to England in 1771. In the mentioned cultures the taboo has religious meaning, in other cultures it has other meanings too.

If a habit or activity rates to taboo, it will be not allowed to ply or do. The contravention of prohibitions like this the law to punish may order it, but the contravention of the taboo counts as serious one as a psychological burden.

There are different taboos in every different cultures. There is not any taboo that occurs in every cultures. However, some of them are widespreads (for example: increst and cannibalism are taboo in every cultures).

The taboos may cover on all of the areas of life. They reasons are often in the morality or religion, but many taboos the modern science justified they existence.

There are some related with foods (for example: at Muslim’s pork consumption’s ban or at Jawish the rules of kosher dining). Certain words may be taboo too, for example the pronunciation of God’s name in certain religions (for example Jehova), and each dirty words, although this is marginal case between the taboo and the etiquette. The 19. century taboos (for example nakedness, sexuality, atheism) sweeping him away began with the naturalism.

How to be British?

 2011.02.27. 18:31

How to be British?- Be Gentleman!

If someone start to think about the British culture or the behavior, than unwillingly can think about being a gentleman is important for people in UK.

The term of gentleman –according to Wikipedia-  means to a man, who is from a good family and well-educated. The word comes from Latin „gentilis” ( =man) , similar to  the French gentilhomme”, the Spanish „gentilhombre” and the Italian „gentil uomo” or „gentiluomo”. It’s from the Victorian era, but later it became to a politeness for all men, like „Ladies and Gentlemen…”.

But how do they exatly behave? Well, it’s a hard question. We  could say, that they’re too apathetic to the world- but that would not be (the whole) true, because for the first sight he is the one who never inflicts pain. If we want to be exact, we call a man „gentleman”, than he has to be really patient, gentle, merciful, he never speaks about himself, only when someone asks him, he never believe in the gossips, and he always interpret everything for the best. He is never mean, he always has his eyes on his friends (all) and never takes unfair advantages. He submits pain, because you can’t live without it, he doesn’t afraid of death, because it’s  his destiny. So to say in an other word, he is like a knight (I mean the real behavior of the knights).

When Adam delved and Eve span,
Who was then the gentleman?

                              By: John Ball

How do they look(ed) like?

Actually, they wore black suit with tie, closed shoes, also black top hat and with walking stick.

However, it’s a really changeable word nowadays: every women have her own gentleman.

Some voices from „gentleman”:

A boy’s: They are always wearing a suit, they don’t have friends, and they are never smiling. They are always working, they don’t have life. ( ---> he doesn’t love them…)

A girl’s: I would like a gentleman, because I could lead him into a wrong way….they are just too honest. But they are so cool!

Why should you watch Gossip Girl?

 2011.02.04. 19:36

I will write about my favorite television series Gossip Girl.

First, let’s introduce it a little. Gossip Girl is an American teen-drama series based on the novel series with the same name, written by Cecily von Ziegesar. There are several differences between the books and the series. The series runs on The CW since September 19, 2007. It was made by Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz.

The series it’s about young and rich teenagers, living on the Upper East Side in New York City. It is narrated by the mysterious blogger “Gossip Girl, voiced by Kristen Bell.

Let’s take a look on the main characters. Serena van der Woodsen is a beautiful, blond, shining, confident girl and the series begins with her returning from a boarding school. She’s portrayed by Blake Lively. Her best friend is Blair Waldorf. She is the queen of the high school, she’s snobbish, perfectionist and manipulative. She’s portrayed by Leighton Meester. She is one of my favorite characters. Her perfect boyfriend is Nate Archibald. He is very handsome and every girl’s dream.  He’s portrayed by Chace Crawford. He’s best friend is Chuck Bass. He is the “bad boy”, he loves women, and he’s manipulative. He’s my absolutely favorite character. Her relationship with Blair is legendary.  He is portrayed by Ed Westwick. He is my absolutely favorite character. Serena’s boyfriend is Dan Humphry, a boy who doesn’t live on the Uper East Side. He is much poorer than the other kids, he loves writing, and he’s very kind, honest and intelligent. He’s portrayed by Penn Badgley. Her little sister is Jenny Humphry. She’s blond and pretty, and she tries desperately to be on of the luxurious girls. She is interested in fashion. She is portrayed by Taylor Momsen. The series is about them and their parent.

And why should you watch Gossip Girl? It introduces a really interesting world of high society, which is so much different as us. The plot is very interesting and exciting, sometimes funny, sometimes sad. There are beautiful clothes in it, and all of the characters are pretty. It has a really nice visual world. I‘ve began to watch it for 3 months. I’ve only heard and read about it before, but I decided to watch the first episode, because I was curious. I really loved it and begun to watch it further. Now I’ve seen the all first three seasons, and now I’m in the middle of the fourths season, like in the American television. I don’t recommend it for everybody, but I think it’s a really good series in its own type.

The birth and death of a star

 2011.01.28. 18:55

John Belushi

John Adam Belushi was born on January 24, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Agnes and Adam Belushi (first generation Albanian immigrants). He was raised in the Albanian Orthodox Church. He had two brothers: Jim (also a famous actor, still alive), Billy, and Marian. He attended Wheaton Central High School, where he met his future wife, Judy Jacklin. His first success as a comedian was in 1971. He was also a talented musician and a very unique actor. His rare sense of humour made him really special in everything he played. He had several famous roles in different TV-shows and became really popular nationwide. He also starred in the famous cult movie, The Blues Brothers with his partner and friend, Dan Aykroyd (1980). Since he was very popular, he was so much in demand that he had five to six shows a week, which took a toll on his health: he had to use different synthetic drugs like cocaine, heroin, LSD to keep him going. It eventually lead to his untimely death. He was only 33 years old (some people are only starting their carriers at that age).

On  March 5, 1982 he was found dead in his hotel room in West Hollywood, California. The cause of his death was a „speedball” the combined injection of heroin and cocaine. Ont he night of his death, he was visited by different friends, collegues like Robin Williams, and Robert De Niro, but his death was established as a drug-related accident by forensic experts. But two months later, Cathy Smith, another friend declared: She injected him with the final shot and was charged with first-degree murder. Later in her appeal she claimed it was involuntary manslaughter, but still spent months in jail.

Personally I really like this actor because of his performance in The Blues Brothers which is one of my favourite movies.
